Personalised jewellery South Africa

Personalised jewellery made to order in Cape Town and delivered anywhere in South Africa. Name necklaces, initial pendants, engraved bracelets, fingerprint rings and signet rings, cut and finished by hand at Aria Jewellery.

Every piece here is made after you order it, in 925 sterling silver, solid 9ct gold or gold plated silver. Nothing is stock. That is why it takes longer than an ordinary order and why it fits when it arrives.

Shop by type: personalised necklaces, personalised bracelets or personalised rings.

How it works

Step What happens What we need
1. Order Choose the piece, the metal, the length and the size The exact spelling you want
2. We check We confirm spelling and layout before anything is cut A reply to our message
3. We make it Cut, engraved and finished by hand in our workshop Nothing from you
4. Delivered Insured and tracked to your door A delivery address

Spelling is checked with you before anything is made, because a personalised piece cannot be remade for free once it is cut. Send capitals and punctuation exactly as you want them to appear.

How to choose personalised jewellery

Personalised jewellery is bought for a reason rather than for a look, so the decision usually starts with the person rather than the piece. These are the questions worth answering before you order.

Who wears it, and how often. Something worn every day needs to survive daily wear, so solid 9ct gold or a heavier sterling silver piece is worth the extra. Something worn for occasions can be finer and more detailed, because it spends most of its life in a box rather than against a jumper.

How visible do they want it. A full name in script reads from across a room. A single initial or a small engraved disc is private, and most people who wear personalised pieces daily choose the quieter option. If you are buying for someone who does not usually wear jewellery, go smaller than you think.

What the words are. A name is the obvious choice and the most common. A date, a set of coordinates, a short phrase or a child’s handwriting often mean more, and they age better. A piece that says one word can be worn for thirty years. A piece that says something very specific to one moment sometimes cannot.

Will it need to change. A stacked ring necklace takes another ring when another child arrives. A charm bracelet takes another charm. If the family or the story is still growing, choose something that can grow with it rather than something finished.

If you are unsure on any of it, send us a message before you order. We would rather talk it through than remake something.

What we can personalise

Type Best for Notes
Names A first name, or a child’s name Script or block. Longer names cost more in gold.
Initials and monograms Subtle, and it suits daily wear One to three letters on most pieces
Dates Anniversaries, births, weddings Engraved rather than cut
Fingerprints A newborn, or someone you have lost We send instructions for taking the print
Handwriting A signature or a note in someone’s own hand Send a clear photo of the original
Coordinates and short messages A place that matters Character limits depend on the piece

Order early for gifts. Personalised pieces are made after you order, so they are not next day. Around Mother’s Day, Christmas and Valentine’s the workshop books up, and that is exactly when most of these are bought. If it is for a date, message us before you order and we will tell you honestly whether it will arrive in time.

Personalised jewellery as a gift

Most of what leaves our workshop in this collection is a gift, and gifts have their own set of problems that ordinary jewellery does not.

Sizing. Necklaces and bracelets are the safe choice, because neither depends on a finger measurement. Rings are the risky one. If you want to give a personalised ring as a surprise, borrow one she already wears on the right finger and send us the inside measurement, or choose a necklace and let her choose the ring later.

Spelling. Send the exact spelling, including capitals and any accents. Nicknames, second names and the way a family actually spells something are where mistakes happen. We confirm it with you before anything is cut, but the version you send is the version we work from.

Timing. Nothing here is stock, so it is made after you order. That is the whole point, and it is also why it is not next day. Mother’s Day, Christmas and Valentine’s are when the workshop is busiest and when most of these are bought, which is a bad combination if you leave it late.

Packaging. Everything arrives boxed and ready to give, so you do not need to do anything to it.

If you are buying for a milestone with a fixed date, message us first with the date and the piece. We will tell you honestly whether it can be done in time rather than take the order and hope.

Who buys personalised jewellery

Mothers, most often. The Mama bracelets and necklaces are the pieces we make more of than anything else in this collection, and they are bought for Mother’s Day, for a first birthday and for a new baby.

Couples, for anniversaries, using dates or joined initials rather than names.

Families, using a stacked ring necklace with one initial ring per person, added to as the family grows.

And people buying for themselves, usually an initial or a signet ring, worn every day rather than kept for occasions.

Caring for a personalised piece

Engraving and cut lettering collect hand cream and soap in the detail, which is what makes a name necklace look dull. A soft toothbrush, warm water and mild soap gets into the letters. Rinse and dry properly.

Silver darkens over time. A polishing cloth reverses it, but work gently around fine cut lettering rather than scrubbing. Our silver care guide covers it.

Take fine name necklaces off before sleeping. Cut lettering has thin sections that bend if they catch.

Questions

How long does it take?

Every piece is made after you order, so it is not next day. Message us with your date and we will confirm the current turnaround before you pay.

Can I change the spelling after ordering?

Yes, until we start cutting. We confirm the spelling with you first, which is why that step exists. Once a name is cut it cannot be undone.

Silver or gold?

Silver if you want to spend less or are buying several. Solid 9ct gold if it is meant to last a lifetime and be worn daily. Gold plated sits between the two.

How many letters can I have?

It depends on the piece and the metal, because longer names use more material. Send us the name and we will tell you before you order.

Can you use a real fingerprint or handwriting?

Yes to both. We send instructions for taking a clean print, and handwriting only needs a clear photo of the original.

Can personalised pieces be returned?

Personalised jewellery is made to order and cannot be resold, so it is not returnable for a change of mind. If something is wrong with the piece itself we will put it right. That is why we confirm spelling first.
